Semaglutide and TIrzepatide

Semaglutide/ Tirzepatide are medications that belong to a class of drugs known as glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonists. They are primarily used to treat type 2 diabetes and have also been approved for the treatment of obesity. They work by mimicking the action of GLP-1, a hormone that stimulates the release of insulin and helps regulate blood sugar levels. By activating GLP-1 receptors, these meds  can lower blood sugar levels, reduce appetite, and promote weight loss.

Both are  typically administered as a subcutaneous injection and are available under various brand names, including Ozempic, Wegovy, or Mounjarao depending on the intended use (diabetes or obesity). It has been shown to be effective in improving glycemic control in people with type 2 diabetes and can also help with weight management when used for obesity. Many patients experience a 15-20% total body weight loss.
